Lisette Leegwater sculpture

Before I discovered stones I was already working 3 dimensionally, in a totally different field of work. My love for working in 3d is coming from my time at the Fashion Academy in Amsterdam. Especially the subject moulage, which gave me the opportunity to create what was in my minds eye, but clothes need zippers and other practical solutions and that didn't resonate with what I thought to be most important: the original form, freed from all additions.

In 2005 I began to work in stone. This material gives me the freedom which is necessary to visualise what I observe and feel. Most of the time I work without a plan. While working on the stone a shape will arise which I often don’t see coming. Its an intensive but rewarding process. My sculptures are mostly abstract and smoothly polished in organic shapes.

My name is Lisette Leegwater (1979) and I live and work in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
Besides my free work I'm happy to consider commissioned work.

Soapstone carving workshop

Soapstone is a relatively soft kind of stone which is easy to carve with rasps & files and after polishing this material brings magnificent deepcolored results. At the end of the workshop you’ll go home with a beautiful, unique selfmade piece of art.
The creative process, which will come to you while connecting with the stone, is more important than the results. You will be guided through the process where necessery.

Location: at my studio in Amsterdam starting Spring 2012
Time: 10:00-15:00
Costs: €90 per two-day workshop, €45 for 1 day,
excl. stone (price varies with weight)
incl. coffee/tea and biological/vegetarian lunch

You can enroll individually, with two or with a small
group eg; a day with friends, a familyday or a
company-outing. Three to six people per workshop.

In additon to the workshops, weekly guidance is available
on Thursday and Friday mornings from 10:00 til 12:00.
